Liam Callanan is an adjunct professor in George Mason University's Honors Program. He received an MFA in creative writing from George Mason and an MA in literature from Georgetown University. He's contributed to the New York Times Book Review, the Washington Post, the Ottawa Citizen, Forbes FYI, NPR's Morning Edition and elsewhere. He's also a regular commenator for WAMU 88.5 FM in Washington, DC. One of his recent commentaries for WAMU discussed monuments and memory in the wake of September 11. Francesca da Rimini has been working in the field of new media since 1984 as an arts manager, film and video maker, curator, corporate geisha girl, cyberfeminist, poet, puppet mistress and ghost. Much of her creative practice is collaborative, and her poetry and prose has been published in numerous anthologies, magazines and zines. She lives in Adelaide, South Australia. Los Dias y Las Noches de los Muertos (the days and nights of the dead), a collaborative work with Michael Grimm (soundscape 'Never Over And Done With (spooky sounds 1-6)'), was funded by the Australia Council's Visual Arts Craft Fund in 1997. Production of dollspace (with Michael Grimm) was assisted by residencies at the Media Resource Centre, Adelaide. dollspace and soundtrack for an empty dollspace (composed by Michael Grimm) were awarded equal first prize at Arts-Edge (Art Gallery of WA, April 1998), and a prize at the COMTECart 98 Media Art Competition in Dresden (Nov 1998). They were featured at FOLDBACK in 1998 Adelaide Festival's, and exhibited at trAce International Online Writing Community (UK), Aleph (Spain), The Critical Eye (USA), and bought by the University of Westminster. In February 2000 Francesca was the first artist-in-residence at Marko Peljhan's Makrolab, Rottnest Island. The island carries the burden of being Australia's largest deaths in custody site, prompting the creation of an online illuminated diary Ghost Fields during her residency.

Claudia Herbst Claudia Herbst currently holds the position of Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute, School of Art and Design, Department of Computer Graphics & Interactive Media. Prior to her returning to academia she worked in the computer graphics industry. At Disney Interactive she implemented a training program for 2D and 3D artists using digital Media. At Disney Feature Animation she has taught animation and special effects to 3D artists. In her own work and research Ms. Herbst focuses on gender and technology issues in new media. Ricardo Dominguez Ricardo Dominguez is a co-founder of The Electronic Disturbance Theater (EDT), the group that developed Virtual-Sit In technologies in 1998 in solidarity with the Zapatista communities in Chiapas, Mexico. He is Senior Editor of The Thing (bbs.thing.net). He is a former member of Critical Art Ensemble (1987 to 1994), the originators of the theory of Electronic Civil Disobedience. Currently he is a Fake_Fakeshop Worker (www.fakeshop.com), a hybrid performance group, presented at the Whitney Biennial 2000. Dominguez has collaborated on a number of international net_art projects: among them are Dollspace, produced with Francesca da Rimini (www.thing.net/~dollyoko), and the Somatic_Architecture Project with Diane Ludin (www.thing.net/~diane), in which he is OS_slave for i_drunners (a Mistresses of Technology Project) - www. idrunners.net. He has also collaborated with Jennifer and Kevin Mccoy (airworld.net) on a number of projects, and participated in "The Warhol Hijack" with the Verbal group. Ricardo is a founding member of nettime latino (nettime.org). He presented EDT's SWARM action at Ars Electronica's InfoWar Festival in 1998 (Linz, Austria). His first digital zapatismo project took place in 1996 - 97, a three month RealVideo/Audio network project: The Zapatista/Port Action at (MIT). Ricardo is also co-founder of nettime Latino. His essays have appeared at Ctheory (www.ctheory.org) and in "Corpus Delecti: Performance Art of the Americas," (Routledge, 2000), edited by Coco Fusco. Masuda A. Mohamadi aka "Anna," will complete her MFA in Creative Writing at George Mason University this Spring (2002). A fellowship has allowed her to devote her full time this semester to completing her book which is a combination memoir and researched essay recounting her family's experiences in and after Afghanistan. Lori Reed Dr. Reeds Primary research interests are in media studies and in social and cultural studies of science and technology. She is interested in areas such as media theory and criticism, computer-mediated-communication, gender and technology, and institutional approaches to the study of media. She has published essays that focus on the history, culture, and politics of old and new media in journals and books such as Critical Studies in Media Communication, Discourse, The Howard Journal of Communications, and the Routledge International Encyclopedia of Women: Global Womens Issues and Knowledge. Dr. Reed joined the University of Rhode Island Department of Communication Studies in the fall of 2000 after completing her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagn in Communications Research. Her teaching interests include The Social and Cultural Aspects of Media and New Communication Technologies, and New Media and Society.
